Financing Your Film

For filmmakers at any level, finding funds to start or complete your project is a never-ending struggle which can at times be one of the most difficult elements of getting your film from concept to screen.

One of the significant difficulties here for the maker of short films is the movement of funding bodies away from investing in the short form and moving funding priorities to feature films, online content and games and immersive media. This increasingly tight funding path for short films puts the pressure firmly back on the filmmakers themselves to be inventive in their funding strategies and the “pathways to audience”.

In this session, you’ll hear from filmmakers who’ve funded their projects privately, you’ll hear from screen agencies regarding their current funding emphasis, and you’ll hear from filmmakers who’ve had the best of both worlds.

Chaired by Shaun Miller, the panel includes:

Ariel Waymouth (Production Executive at VicScreen; former producer at Studio Moshi Antimation and Viskatoons)

Kauthar Abdulalim (CEO & Executive Producer at Blacksand Pictures; filmmaker of “#Matched”, “Salma’s Season” and “The Ninth Tower”)

Kylie Eddie (Co-Founder of Lean Filmmaking; filmmaker of “The Kiss” and “Three Months at Sea”)

Shana Levine (Producer; Executive Producer; former senior roles at the SAFC and Screen Queensland and Screen Australia; former consultant Stan Originals)
