The St Kilda Film Festival is proud to present two dedicated youth programs;
Under The Radar
Under the Radar is a competition dedicated to young filmmakers, showcasing their work in an internationally recognised film festival. The program encourages young filmmakers to pursue their craft and supports the future stars of cinema - both in front of and behind the camera. Although the St Kilda Film Festival is an open entry competition, it is often difficult for young people to compete against more experienced filmmakers of an older age. This category is solely dedicated to the outstanding work that is being produced by young filmmakers under 21 in Australia.
Armed & Dangerous
Armed & Dangerous is an inclusive, non-competitive showcase of student work from a diverse range of education providers featuring work from young people undertaking VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) and VET (Vocational Education and Training) courses as well as mainstream schools from years 7 – 10.
In its 12 year history, Armed & Dangerous has screened over 100 short films of different types and genres, taking on topics from serious to fun. This year we are delighted to be able to continue to challenge young people to have their say, hone their skills and to see their work presented in public on the big screen.
Many young filmmakers have gained their first experiences of media production through this unique event which continues to encourage and support young people to have a go.
